Here's another dire item for the loony lawmaker files, via the Kaiser Network's Daily Women's Health Policy Report.
A state representative in Indiana, Republican Troy Woodruff, introduced legislation this week that would make it illegal to have an abortion except if continuing the pregnancy would result in "substantial permanent impairment of the life or physical health of the pregnant woman." Performing an abortion would become a Class C felony, the Evansville Courier & Press reported, which means that a doctor could get two to eight years for conducting the legal medical procedure.
Alas, this bill is not just so much loony grandstanding. Woodruff explained that it's an attempt to create a state law that could then be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court in an attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade.
