Ibiza is most easily reached from the Spanish mainland. Flights and ferries to this tropical island leave several times a day and can be booked at a fairly reasonable price. One-way flights from Barcelona or Valencia average $70. Ferry tickets from either of these cities cost around $36 one-way. Once you arrive on Ibiza, there are numerous buses and taxis to shuttle you to your chosen destination.

Most of Ibiza's 1 million yearly visitors choose to stay in the island's capital, Ibiza City, which is known for its thriving nightlife (many clubs cater to gay travelers), gorgeous beaches and bustling markets. Hotels and hostels fill up in the summer, so it's best to make reservations before you arrive. No visa is required for U.S. passport holders staying less than three months. For longer stays, contact your nearest Spanish consulate for assistance.

A general note about travel information: A wealth of travel-related information is available online from a variety of sources -- guidebook publishers, database "travel agents," government-sponsored tourist information and private sites. You can access such information by doing a destination-based word search -- e.g., Spain, Mediterranean, Ibiza -- using any of the standard search engines. The information above is meant to provide the essentials you need to know before planning a trip. It is not meant to replace a Web search. We strongly encourage you to explore the extraordinary resources of the Internet to find the information best suited to you.
