SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
THURSDAY, JAN. 14, 1999
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S P E C I A L S

Regular programming on broadcast and cable networks may be preempted for coverage of President Clinton's impeachment trial, which resumes Thursday. And if that doesn't do it for you, there's a guaranteed-to-please rerun of The Godfather (9 p.m., USA), shown in two parts, concluding tomorrow night.

S E R I E S

On Cupid (9 p.m., ABC), it's the possibly delusional leading the definitely delusional as Trevor seeks to make a match for a man who claims to be Don Quixote. NBC is airing a bonus episode of Lateline (9:30 p.m., NBC) this week; it's a rerun of last week's show where Pearce is mocked by Conan O'Brien. It doesn't bode well for the series that the funniest parts of the episode are basically Conan schtick. On a rerun of ER (10 p.m., NBC), Lucy misplaces a corpse and Elizabeth has a grueling first day as an intern. 48 Hours (10 p.m., CBS) has a scheduled report on binge drinking on college campuses, but this may be replaced by impeachment-related stories. The ABC News special Crime & Justice: Target America (10 p.m., ABC) examines the terrorist threat at home and abroad, and includes an exclusive interview with Osama bin Laden, the terrorist leader believed to have masterminded the bombing of American embassies in East Africa.
