SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
THURSDAY, FEB. 11, 1999
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S E R I E S

On Friends (8 p.m., NBC), Phoebe spies Monica and Chandler together, and now that everybody knows (but Monica and Chandler don't know they know), the friends decide to play a little trick on the furtive couple. Frasier (9 p.m., NBC) has three vignettes (that's such a "Frasier" word, isn't it?) about Valentine's Day. Cupid (9 p.m., ABC), the most romantic show on the air, has been dumped by ABC, due to low ratings. But before it gets yanked for good, here's one last episode for Valentine's Day. Strangely, though, ABC is inviting viewers to e-mail comments regarding the show's cancellation. A lot of good that's going to do. Maybe this is supposed to be part of "the healing process." Next step: Big yellow bus shelter signs that say, "Please don't hate us because we canceled your favorite show. We're TV. That's what we do." It's the beginning of the end for George Clooney on ER (10 p.m., NBC). In the first episode of this two-parter (concluding next week), word of Doug's part in the death of Ricky Abbott spreads through the hospital. There's also a blizzard and a school bus crash and an accident involving County General's own as doctors (including Doug) race to the scene.
