Marilynn Bachmayer
SECOND RUNNER-UP

WINNER OF A $25 GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM BORDERS BOOKS & MUSIC

When Marilynn Bachmayer stopped writing back, her friend teasingly said he thought she had died. In "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated ... by me," Bachmayer plays directly into his joke. She carefully crafts a faux letter from her parents, informing him that she died in a car accident. Thirty years later, the victim of the joke still hasn't forgiven her.
