- - - - - - - - - - - - - - What Is Drama Queen? SUBMISSION GUIDELINES, CONTEST RULES AND PRIZES Do you have a story too bizarre to keep to yourself? A quotidian horror too strange to be believed? You could become Salon's Drama Queen for a Day and win free books from barnesandnoble.com! Drama Queen for a Day is a contest featured regularly in the Mothers Who Think area of Salon Magazine. Each month, we call for stories on a specific theme, from holiday horrors with preschoolers to gynecological terrorism, and ask readers to share their wild experiences with us for the chance to be published in Salon. Once the three finalists' stories are posted, readers may vote for their favorite. The winner and two runners-up are identified shortly thereafter, along with the next call for entries. The Drama Queen winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to barnesandnoble.com, Salon's exclusive online bookselling partner. Each runner-up will receive a $50 certificate, and a video from Globalstage to keep the kids busy while Mom is reading. Prize notification and instructions on prize redemption will arrive via e-mail approximately two weeks after the winner is announced. Globalstage creates theatrical video productions that will excite you, challenge your intellect and inspire great discussions with your kids. The Globalstage plays are filmed by the BBC and edited to give you live performances that look like movies yet preserve the fine art inherent in live theater. Videos include "Pinocchio," "Cyrano de Bergerac" and "Far From the Madding Crowd." Mothers Who Think is grateful to Globalstage for providing these wonderful videos as prizes for our Drama Queen contest. To submit a story to Drama Queen, please e-mail your story to dramaqueen@salonmagazine.com. Your story should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words, and should be submitted as plain text in the body of an e-mail. Please note: Stories sent as e-mail attachments will not be considered! Stories that have been published elsewhere will not be considered for the contest. By submitting your story, you give Salon all publication rights to your essay, in all formats and media, and you accept that the above prizes will be your sole compensation for these rights. This includes the right to refer to elements of your story in our Drama Queen contest introduction. Remember, we're looking for kooky, off-the-wall and strangely humorous tales from your life. Check out the Drama Queen archives to get a better sense of our style. And stay tuned to Mothers Who Think to learn about the latest contest and vote for your favorite entries! |
